SENATOR LARRY CAMPBELL TABLES BILL TO PROTECT THE CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Ottawa, June 12, 2008 – Senator Larry Campbell this week introduced a bill to protect the Canadian Football League (CFL) from foreign infringement. The Bill was introduced in response to The Buffalo Bills’ recent announcement of an eight game series at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, beginning in 2008.

“As proud Canadians and fans of the CFL, we must make every effort to defend our own brand of football. The CFL is a league that millions of people have grown up with, supported and loved. As Canadians, we must ensure that this great cultural icon does not become extinct over the wishes of one city and one group of people in this country” said Senator Campbell.

The CFL invests and creates revenue for local communities and provides employment for thousands of individuals across Canada. It has been a focal point for competitive and professional football in Canada for over one hundred years.
